Testing for sexually transmitted and blood borne infections (STBBIs) is generally recommended:
- if you are sexually active
- if you have shared injection drug use equipment, even once
- if you or your partner are thinking about becoming pregnant
Testing for Hep C is generally recommended:
- if you have ever used inadequately sterilized medical, dental, surgical, tattooing or body piercing equipment
- if you have shared injection drug use equipment, even once
- if you have had a transfusion of unscreened blood or blood products
- if you were born in, or immigrate from a region with high hepatitis C prevalence
