Unfortunately there is no cure for HIV, though cure related research is happening all over the globe.
However, there is effective treatment for HIV that can improve a person’s immune system, keep them healthy and prevent sexual transmission to their partner(s). When someone is diagnosed with HIV, their health care team will discuss treatment options with them and come up with a treatment plan together. HIV medications are known as HAART (highly active antiretroviral therapy.)
There are also medications that people who are HIV negative can take to prevent acquiring the virus. This is known as PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis.) Nine Circles Community Health Centre can also answer some PrEP related questions.
