Do I have to be sexually active to get a Pap test done?

Thank you for the question.  According to the Manitoba Cervix Check guidelines, a pap test is not recommended for those who have never been sexually active. Sexual activity includes vaginal intercourse, digital sex (hand-to-genital contact) and oral sex with a partner of any gender.

A pap test (sometimes called a “pap smear”) is a test used to check the cervix for early signs of cancer. Pap tests can find cancer cells or cells that could turn into cancer. Early detection helps in appropriate treatment or a cure. Ask your doctor if you have any concerns.
