What are the routine STBBIs that I will be screened for during my pregnancy?

People who are pregnant should receive health care throughout their pregnancy and this would include routine STBBI screening at least once during pregnancy. Here is an earlier post about testing for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) you may find helpful.

Because you are sexually active, your health care provider will consult with you about your sexual health and which tests would be appropriate. These might include:

  • Syphilis
  • Gonorrhea
  • Chlamydia
  • HIV
  • Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis C
  • Trichomoniasis
  • Your provider might also ask if you have a history of genital herpes.

During your initial pregnancy appointment, your health care provider will explain the benefits of testing and being able to manage any infection that is present during your pregnancy. This will be a good opportunity for you to ask questions.
